Is a regulator needed when using a piston pump?

Is a regulator needed when using a piston pump?

Or can you just use the 2nd gen. piston pump without a regulator?

If you use the 2ndGen piston pump you need a regulator. If you use the low pressure piston pump (Cummins #3936320), no. The VE doesnt like more than about 18-20psi max.
