Question Rear window latch broken/gone any good fixes??

Latch on my sliding rear window is broken. Does any body have any ideas on a good fix, something secure?? I want to get rid of the Shell but right now the window just slides right open.

D-C out!

I used to work at a lumber yard so i used one of the old metal bands off a bundle of wood. Just bent it so the sides would catch the windows. its not that strong but just a passing check to see if the window was unlocked it would hold it closed.

Is there enough room between the metal and glass to drill/bolt for a hasp or something of that nature? or does the glass extend all the way in side the frame?

The glass goes about 1/2 way into the fram on mine. I know that because the glue that holds the glass let loose and every time I go to close it, I get the metal frame and no window

Gary's U-Pull-It. It's in Conklin...or Kirkwood, I think. Near the Frito-Lay factory. They rotate stock every couple weeks, so I try and do a walk through a few times a month. Last time I was there was for my gas-saver Toyota, but I noticed some 1st gen shapes out in the back...you never know what'll turn up out there. Lots of leftover flood victims still filtering in with all sorts of good trim etc.

Last time I checked they were still available through the dealer as long as it is a factory slider. The factory ones have screws that hold the plastic parts to the aluminum of the window.

Another trick to help secure them is to cut a wooden dowel or something and lay it in the track on each side to fill the gap.

Ummm, ya might be a redneck. Of course I always keep a roll of electrical tape, zip ties, and bailin wire in the glove box for those unexpected side of the road fixes. lol

you can take a piece of flat strap and put it in the rails or you can go to home depot/etc and get the little things that are common on household windows that are a c shaped piece of metal with a screw in the center and you but it up to the window on the rail and tighten it down

Well, if you can get it for a buck at the junkyard it's worth the struggle.
