Post Rear brakes

On my 1993 Dodge D250 the right rear brake automatic adjustment keeps tightening untill the brake ls too tight and is starting to smoke. I put into a brake shop and they couldn't find anything wrong. They said that the emergency brake cable needs to be replaced because it doesn't release all the way. Could that cause the auto adj to run wild? I did a brake job on it last year and already ruined a drum and a set of shoes on that side of the truck.

Well since the e-brake and auto adjuster runs off the same point at the top of the brake system, I think it might be possible for a E-brake cable that is not returning all the way to be causing some of the problem. Will it cause the self adjuster to tighten up, I don't know for sure.

I just redid the back brakes on my Dana 60 and my e-brake cables were sticky, and not returning properly. So a little silicone spray lube on the cable ends, then pull it tight one way with a pair of pliers, then back the other, more lube, and so on.... I did this until they were moving freely back and forth, took probably 15 minutes per cable.

Maybe give this a try, or easier would be a whole new cable.

Do you do a lot of backing up? the self adjusters only actuate when you are backing up and apply the brakes.

Try and disconnect the parking brake cable and after you manually adjust your brakes see if they tighten up on you.

Check the star wheel and make sure they are on the proper side of the truck and see that the spring that holds the adjuster is tight against the teeth of the star wheel.
