So I was pulling a trailer today and my stupid electric brakes on it screwed up. So i had to unplug it while hauling 9k plus the trailer at 2k. So to say my rear brakes now are junk and laying in pieces as far as i know. I just know they crapped out after i was done hauling. Went to look at the drum to get it off and never seen a drum like that one. Is there instructions here somewhere on how to get it off or could someone explain it to me please. I gott have it back up and running within 12 hours!

Dont be suprised if teh brakes are Ok... unless you realy rode them and heated them up, just pulling 11K wont "junk" them...

also there are several ways to remove the rear drum nut without the socket, just search this forum and you should be able to find them...
Be carefull sliding teh drum on/off teh axle, dont damage teh seals unless you plan to replace them..

When removing teh axle, only jack one side of th truck up, this will drain teh Diff fluid from teh side you are workign on, causing less mess...

inversly, after re-installing everything, jack up the oppossing side to allow fluid to refill teh bearings...

dont lose the little locking tab that holds the drm nut in place..

its a good idea to take a picture of how it all goes together BEFORE you take it apart.....

so i tried all them tips and tricks to get it off without the special socket, does anyone know what size the nut is im trying to get off? i can get some different sockets from one of my friends at work but he cant be bringing home a lot of them

Dean , i bought one at NAPA for around $5... its at home and I cant recall waht size it is, its close to 2"

i measured the nut and its in around 2.5 inches in size, its either 2.5, or one size bigger or one size smaller, i think hes gonna bring me home all 3. i have the tool at my dads business, but it don't open till 9 am tomorrow morning and i have to be on the road by then, if nothing else and he brings me the wrong sockets, im taking a chisel to that bad boy and knocking it loose that way, then ill just have to buy some new nuts at a later date

got it all done. socket is 2 9/16 in. my pads are too the metal. and they only have around 12k miles on them. i think that last trip killed them from heating up so much cause it was so hilly when i lost the trailer brakes

OUCH...
well if they got that hot, you shold probably consider replacing the springs and other hardware while your in there and haveing the drums checked for warpage...

drums checked in good. and spent 112 dollars on brake shoes, hardware, adjusters, wheel seals, blah blah blah, the best of the best parts are in there right now because i like my stopping power

Where did you buy your brake parts? I trying to make a part# list for brake items concerning my 93'. All of the brakes need to be replaced. The bearings need replacing too. Did you upgrade to the 3" brake shoes on the rear? I heard this is a good 1st gen upgrade (more surface area = better braking force). Anyone know the part# for the front hub socket? (Dana 60 socket).
