Rear axle nut socket
Aloha people! I need a NAPA part number for the rear axle nut socket. The counter person couldn't go by application and the Stickies only specified that it was a 'special socket', thin walled 2 9/16. Is it hex or octagon? Carquest and Checker Auto claim they don't even carry such a tool?!?!
Carquest even told me I had to go to Sears for such a large socket. Go figure. I even explained to him how it looked and he still insisted they didn't carry such a tool. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Mac Tools. Part number AS1928A here's a good thread. You can pick them up on ebay if you can't find one locally.

Apparently nobody buys these sockets anymore. Parts stores such as pepboys and napa don't usually carry them anymore where as they used to be a behind the counter item.
As a matter of fact a guy i goto almost every week has his own booth at a flea market. He sells nothing but returned and unwanted items from major chains such as pepboys, autozone, advanced auto and even from napa some times. He has two rubbermade containers FILLED with these special sockets for floating hub nuts, pinion nuts and spindle nuts.

This is the one I got from Napa. It worked good.

I'm saying its something that is growing more scares, because there are LESS people doing their own maintenance and less serviceable parts, so less demand for the product thus it is harder to find stocked on store shelves.
