Radio Reception (poor)

I searched the archives hoping to find something, unfortunatly I didn't find anything.

This is one my 93.
I usually listen to the same radio station from home to work with no problems. I noticed it was degrading slowly, I wouldn't recieve that station in certain locations. Wasn't a problem, didn't bother me yet. It degraded even further, I figured the radio reciever was going so I put in a newer radio out of a 2002 truck. This was an improvement, however I still can't listen to the same station the whole way to work like I can with my 2000.

So far I've only replaced the radio. I have yet to inspect the antenna or its wire.

Suggestion or similar experiences would be great.

Pull the antenna out of the fender and clean the mounting surfaces. The antenna is grounded through the mount, reception will be poor if the ground is poor. Also could be the cable, I had that die on my old D250. It just pulled apart inside.

How hard is it to wrench the antenna apart, I don't want to mess it up too much.

You're supposed to use a special socket, but a couple taps with a punch will knock it loose. Not too bad, worst case scenario is you need a new antenna for $20. Just mind the paint if the truck still looks good.

Thanks Dave, I found the problem, the inner conductor turned into nothing up by the antenna. Pulled a good one off the 91. All better now

Hey guys....do the radio's in our model year(s) still have the "tuner" on the back side...
The deal with that was, find a weak station and adjust this tuner till the station was as strong as possible...that "matched" the antenna and radio as close as possible....?????

I know, that's a REALLY old one right...

pb....

That's exactly what had happened to my '85 D250.

I think the old "trimmer" went out when the tuner went digital, I still remember having to replace the vibrator.

Is there a socket on the bottom end of the antenna so I can replace the cable?
