Questions about Dana 60 HD
My '80 crew 2wd has the Dana 60 HD, 4.10 gears, some kind of limited slip. I don't plan on using it, I'll swap everything from my '93 "brick". The Dana 60 could find it's way into a future Scout project. Questions are; what axle spline count does it have - the usual 30?, what kind of limited slip - Trac Loc or Powr Loc? At this time I really don't want to mess with it, like pull the cover and an axle. When I first laid eyes on it after pulling the bed, I noticed it looked different - lots of reinforcing ribs compared to a 70.
Thanks

Never know for sure until you pull an axle shaft and pull the cover. It's a Dodge and Dana thing, you never know what you could have. Things like 4.10 tag with 3.54 gears etc. FWIW the 60hd that was under my 85 crew dually had 30 spline 1 1/4 shafts.

I think the most telling and easiest thing would be to go ahead and zip the 8 axle nuts off and slide the suckah out, count, and replace... He has studs with nuts on the hub, not bolts FWIW

In an '80 model, I can almost guarantee it is a trac-lok, get me the BOM (passenger side, back of the axle tube, 6-digit number usually starting with 6) and I'll tell you for sure.
Every 60HD I have pulled (at least 30, but I have quit counting, hehe) with dates from '75 till '88 have had a trac-lok. I think you have to have ordered a heavy 3/4 ton 4x4 to get a p-lok.

BOM 603992 1, preceded by 4 18 80 A8, which I assume is a date code
I'm expecting 30 spline axles since I've never heard of a 35 spline rear Dana 60 in a Dodge application. Still hoping for a Powr-Lok tho. The truck is former Air Force if that makes any difference.

Bummer, just another weak link that will have to be upgraded when the time comes. Lot stronger than a Dana 44 tho, I've bent those without trying.
Thanks
