question about thermostat

could any one tell me if the thermostat has an inter an outer seal, on a 1990 dodge diesel

Do you mean is there a gaket besides teh one inside the thermostat housing?
If so, no there is just the one..

the dodge dealer tells me they have a thermostat that has a gasket around the metal flange of the thermostat, is this correct an is this wat u have in your truck

The only gasket there is for the thermostat looks like an inch long section of maybe 2" hose with a ledge on one end of it.
This will explain it better.
