mine did the same thing and it was a bad ground. I grounded mine right to the engine.

yeah it probably is the ground, mine did the same thing, and would even not move at all.

also do the block heater change the reading, mine goes up when the batt gauge goes down, and was at 300'(15' outside temp) today, right before it was started

Update

Hey guys a little up date on the pyro. I checked the wires, and everything seems to be tight. The only thing I haven't done is run the ground wire directly to the battery ground. The thing I'm wondering is, have any of you had a problem with the gauge its self? I 'm thinking it may be in the gauge its self.

Any clues?

Thanks, Tony

My pyro gauge (Isspro) moves erratically while the grid heater is cycyling on and off. I've learned just to live with it. After the grid heater stops cycling, the needle reads correctly. Originally I installed the gauge and nothing worked. I decided to move the ground directly to the firewall (behind radio). This fixed the gauge and now works.

Mine sometimes works fine, other times it bounces around as I'm driving down the road.

Later, Tony

Sometimes my Autometer Pyro needle flickers around so fast you can't see it. I have all my ground to the truck electrical ground. Do not know what does it.

The only problems I have had with my Autometer were installation goofs. The gauge ground should go directly to the engine block, according to Autometer.

This is what I 'll do. One small problem is I can't find my instructions on how to hook it up! I guess I'll have to go by memory now.

Thanks, Tony

Up Date

Good morning everyone. I ran a ground wire straight to the battery neg. terminal yesterday. I went for a drive a few minutes ago. The needle only made 2 barely visible moves.

That is until I turned on the lights. At this point the needle bounces around when I use the turn signal, and when I press on the brake pedal.

When I turn off the lights it does not bounce around. I have changed the head light switch within the last 18 months. I also rarely drive this truck at night. Any ideas?

Thanks Guys, Tony

Do you in fact have the gauge powered by a switched source? Specifically one coming directly from the fuse panel?

Sounds as though you're feeding the gauge from a source that is in a circuit so to speak. Not directly from a fuse.

Just for grins and giggles, temporally run a 12vdc feed directly from the positive post of the battery. That way you can determine once and for all if there's an issue with the gauge (or the sensor and associated wiring).
