Putting in a CD Player?
Putting in a CD Player?
Hey guys.
I am going to put a CD player in my 92 but I can't figure out how to remove the dash piece to get the old radio out. Can anyone tell me how to remove the dash piece so I can remove it, install a new CD player, and then put it back on.
Thanks

There are five Phillips screws on the bottom of the top lip. You remove all five. Then there is one Phillips screw below the HVAC controls. You remove that one. There are two Phillips screws holding in your map light. You remove both of those and let the map light flop down. Then you throw the tranny into 1st gear (if it's an automatic) and slowly rock the dash out. Once you get it about one inch out there is a little red "revolver" connector that plugs into the back of the message center. After you unpug that you just pull the dash the rest of the way.
I installed a CD player a while ago, but I don't remember doing anything special past that point... I think there were a few Phillips screws holding the stock radio in, and after that it just slid out and wired up. I don't remember where the wiring information I had was, I think I found if on a search of either Google or DTR... I do remember that I had a little adapter that happened to be color coded, though.
To put the dash back on you just reverse the way you took it off, but since Chrysler had to make every wire in the truck 1 inch too short you have to raise Cain to plug the message center back in. You also have to get creative when you position the map light so that it doesn't get in the way...
While you're in there you can always paint the needles on your gauges and replace the little shift indicator string that's about ready to break...
