Since you didn't want to go with the new head idea, where it's all new, valves, springs etc, I highly suggest you ditch those old valve springs with rediculous shims and put in some new 60 pound Cummins valve springs. About $10-$12 each from Cummins.

all of my springs are within specs without the shims. and another thing is that i don't have the budget a lot of guys here have to be able to do so.

making more progress on the truck. i've just been painting/touching up smaller parts and i still need to paint the head, but i'm also waiting for napa to get the paint that i want in stock. i'm going to use duplicolor's high heat with ceramic flake that's rated for 1200 degrees. i went to autozone to find it but they discontinued it. however, i found some rust-o-leum that is resistant up to 2000 degrees!! i bought a flat aluminum color and painted the manifold and the turbo. i think it'll look good with everything. maybe not, but i at least wanted to make it look better than the rust color they were. surprisingly, the manifold cleaned up really well! i used a wire wheel in a drill and turns out it was just surface rust and when it was done it looked like it was new!! bought some new fuel hose for supply and return. the supply was replaced with stock size, 5/16" fuel hose, and return was replaced with stock as well, 1/4" fuel hose. anyhow, so i'm pretty much at a stand still since there's not much else i can do until i get injectors.

i'd like to run 370's. i really don't think i'd go bigger as i don't have the cooling capabilities/big enough turbo. my pump is stock at the moment and 370's are known to get pretty warm on a modded pump. so for now i think they'd be the best choice. i'm about to call coaltrain and see if they can build me some with 9mm tips on them. i haven't called weston, the guy you referred me to, but i can't get away from coaltrain's good deal lol

hey guys, quick question... when the pump gear indicates TDC, is that firing on #1? i wanna put the engine at TDC so that valve adjustments can be started right away.

thanks dave. only now, i don't see the mark on the gear

also, have you heard of anyone building aftermarket injectors with 9mm tips? i was thinking about that the other day and i thought about asking mark at coaltrain to see if it could be done. since they're obviously not going to get any 7mm tips for a couple of weeks, maybe 9mm's are in abundance.

is everyone getting tired of my questions or what?

finally painted the head today. VHT flat black was the choice i had to make. not much in the way of high heat paint with a gloss really. but it's rated for 1300-2000 degrees. i think it'll look ok with everything.

I don't think they've made 9mm performance injectors in a longgg time.

well, looks like i'm leaning towards a custom set of 5x.012's from bosch. the guys at new era and coaltrain have yet to return any of my phone calls. even after 3 or 4 messages have been left. not very good business ethics in my opinion. the time i've spent waiting around on them was a waste and for the difference in price (though it's more) for the bosch upgrades, it's worth it to get my truck on the road sooner than to continue waiting. after my experience dealing with them, i wouldn't recommend them to anybody. not sure how many of you out there have dealt with them and have nothing but good things to say about them, but if so, you must be one of the lucky ones. i'm not very happy with them and will not deal with them in the future. i'll keep updates coming as soon as things start coming together again.
