Power Steering Pump drive gear

The shaft seal was leaking on my dad's 90 Ram 350 power steering pump and it was dumping fluid into the engine oil.

I pulled the p.s pump and vacuum pump off. I noticed the drive gear has a threaded hole in the center of it. To remove the gear because it's a press fit I assume that you screw the correct sized bolt into the gear until it bottoms out on the end of the p.s pump shaft. Then keep turning the bolt which will remove the gear, correct??

Then to reinstall the gear use the bolt, square nut, and washer that came with the pump right??

What size is the threaded hole in the drive gear?? Thanks..........

Im not sure without looking at it but usually a puller is required to remove a gear or pulley. The powersteering pump is a lot like the ones that are pulley driven on gas engines.
Most of those pumps have 3/8 16 threads better know as 3/8 coarse.
I hope that helps.

you need a T bar puller like the one used to pop the gear off the injector pump

and you need an installer to press the gear back on, a GM pully remover/installer will work to install but not to remove
