Power steering pump ?
Power steering pump ?
Can someone describe (or a photo would be great) how the shaft on the power steering pump connects to the shaft of the vacuum pump? Is there a key, or a pressed on coupler or what?
Thanks,
Brian

I don't have a picture, but basically, envision two castle nuts pointed at one another. Instead of like 8 tabs each, picture two tabs each. They "interlock" to basically form a solid round shaft between the vacuum pump and the power steering pump.
EDIT: look at fixinrams.com for details. There's a good example pic on the main page near the bottom.

Ah, got it. So as a follow up, can I pull the vacuum pump without goofing up the geartrain in the timing case? Looking at it now I see mine is leaking oil out the bottom... I should prolly do something about that.

Yup. Pull the vac and p/s pumps out as a single unit- much easier to seperate on the work bench. Cummins has the vacuum pum pseal kit for like $8 (you pay $50+ at the dealer for the same thing). I forget where I have the part number right now.
