post turbo egt's
post turbo egt's
I got my boost gauge working today--it's an isspro dual gauge with pyro on the left and 0-40 psi on the right--gauge was already installed when I got the truck. The pyro probe is post turbo, about 3 inches after the exhaust housing. I won't even get into how the boost was buchered together. I plugged new line into the port on the intake manifold like the picture in wannadiesel's gallery. I can hit 30 or so psi in the top of 3rd, 4th and rolling on hard in 5th at the highway as well. At cruise, the pyro barely registers---I'm a pokey driver, so 65 or less is cruise. My concern is that on a relatively short uphill, that pyro will start running for 900. I haven't let it get past 825 or so, but I know it will easily get there if I let it. The po sait it had updated injectors...I'm thinking 190's since it was (supposedly) a cummins tech that did the upgrade/pump tune/timing bump. If I lay into it, I can get a grey-ish haze, but no bellowing black smoke, so I figure it's tuned pretty well. With what's in my sig, do those egt's seem right? I'm already wanting to know pre-turbo numbers...All filters and fluids are fresh. Oh, it does seem to fall on it's face at 2200---gonna check the linkage tomorrow. Any comments/suggestions are welcome!

950 is supposed to be tops for post turbo temp. Mines runs that when pulling hard in 5th gear and will go 1100 if I let it. If I downshift to 4th it cools right down to 850 or so. Pump starts to defuel around 2200 or so but with larger injectors mine goes to 24-2500 before it is noticible unless I disconnect the waste gate line.
well, I dug into the top of the pump this afternoon, hehe, and now I've got some questions. I thought I read somewhere that the fuel pin was supposed to pop out when you cycled the throttle with the cone out....mine didn't. Does it only come out when the engine is running, or is mine stuck? Nobody had ever been in there, and the cone was wearing on the shallowest part. I put it back how I found it for now 'till I find out about the pin---what do you think? It seems the pin has been riding up and down the cone, judging by the trail in the grease. Let me know what ya'll think!

Sounds like yours is stuck, it should pop out when you open the throttle. Don't do it with the engine running - the pin will pop out of its bore entirely. It probably comes out far enough to contact the shallow part of the cone, it's just gunked up in the areas where it's never moved before. Rotate the cone to the deep side, the pin may free itself up from the pressure. If the power doesn't change, you'll have to go back in with some penetrating oil and free up the pin.
