are you sure you are not overfilling the system? 134a does not fill like r-12 in that on mine 2-cans fill it. If you fill till there are no bubbles in the sight glass it is to full. With a empty system try it with just 2 cans.

If you can get the proper fittings to splice into the liquid-line hose and have the space to mount a larger inline filter-dryer compatible with the refrigerant being used I see no reason why not. Sporlan and Alco(Emerson) come to mind as prospective brands. Just make sure you secure 'em so vibration doesn't tear 'em up!

A word of caution, though: I did say LIQUID line...Early in my career I made the mistake of splicing a filter-dryer into the DISCHARGE line and the hot gas melted the aluminum silcate dessicant...WHAT A MESS!!!! You can bet I'll never do THAT again!!!!

You always put the freon in the low side, AS A GAS, if you turn the can over and introduce as liquid, you can blow seals. That said, sometimes you have to kick it in the behind by quickly turning the can over. As you put in the gas, watch the sight glass, when it is ALMOST clear turn off the gas and watch the glass, if it doesn't clear up completely, introduce a little gas at a time until glass is clear. The reason that you don't want to put the gas in until it is completely clear the first time around is because it is very easy to over pressure and blow seals. The best time to do it is on a hot, DRY, day, like any day in Phoenix in June. High humidity days really lower the efficiency of ac and it can be difficult to put the gas in. This is all done with the system pumped down and holding a vacuum, if you are not just topping off a system. Also the Narcotraficantes didn't get me again, because I made it back to Phoenix with all body parts intact......Mark

Another thing, the pressure readings don't mean a lot if you don't know the atmospheric conditions where you are. There are charts to tell you what the reading should be for any given condition...Mark

Ok guys.....finally got some where on this deal. Replaced the crush gaskets and o-rings, because it wouldn't hold a vacuum, then my buddy who is a mechanic at work...put the guages on it and started charging the system. High side got up to 350 (it's only 85 hear today) and then i heard him start cussing me.....lol...this is where itn gets good! I had left a piece of cardboard in between the condensor and the radiator from last winter. I had missed it when i looked before. After that the high side is reading 250 and the low side is reading 30. Thermometer got down to 60 in the vent, not great, but better than it was. He thinks it's still alittle low on freon, but i ran out.....gonna get more later. This is with a new expansion valve also.
