My thought at least, is a compressor upgrade or a bigger turbo, an intercooler would be nice as well. I assume you have 3.54's. YOu definately don't want to run 1250 AFTER the turbo for long! Maybe a water meth injection would be nice for the hills as well.

I'm sure more experience folks will chime in.

Post turbo temperature limit is 900 degrees!!!!!! Pre-turbo is 1270 continuous and 1300 short duration. To much heat, in my experience, travels down the turbo shaft and cooks the oil in the bushing next to the exhaust turbine. This of course causes premature bushing failure which could lead to turbo failure. Also aluminum pistons can start to deform above 1300 degrees causing the clearance between the cylinder walls to go away or rings to stick. This usually followed by large amounts of blue smoke out the tail pipe or stack. Piston failure usually occurs after ignoring the egt gauge on a long pull.

What are you running for intake and exhaust?

How is the pump set up?

A 3200 RPM spring will let you run faster in 4th.

60 in 5th is kinda slow with big tires.

Check the exhaust for restriction where it goes over the axle.

And don't be afraid to gear down and wind it up. It's a diesel, it has a governer and you will not blow it up by over-revving it.

With 33" tires, you dont need to be in 5th at only 60mph anyway, unless you have 4.10s, then that's the sweet spot. Drop it into 4th and let her wind up.

Take the slack out of your throttle rod adjuster, and see if that helps.

But, if you cant keep up with a gasser (big or small block) with a nonIC truck, something is wrong somewhere. How is your lift pump output? Fuel filter age/miles? How many miles on the truck? Have the injectors been out in recent memory? All that can affect EGTs and towing.
