Overcharging
Overcharging
I have just got my truck running after swapping in a 1992 motor into my 1992 truck. For some reason my alternator is now overcharging when it did not do this before in the previous truck. Does anyone have any ideas? I am not real good at electrical stuff.

Comptz,
you are correct, my voltage regulator is internal to the alternator. Do you kno if this can be replaced?
John
Yes, you can convert the '92 and '93 trucks to an external regulator. I was told by a fellow '91.5 owner (I never checked myself) that we already have the external regulator, but I'm not certain.
If you have a stock alternator it is externally regulated, no matter what year the truck is. '89-'91 trucks use an old school Mopar regulator on the firewall, '92 & '93 trucks are regulated by the PCM.
John, in your case I would recommend converting to the old style regulator. I like genuine Mopar units, and the good news is you can walk out of a junkyard with 4 or 5 for 20 bucks. Any Chrysler product from the early '70's to the late '80's has one.
The blue regulator is reliable but it is not temperature compensated. If you drive long distances it will overcharge the battery.
