over charging

over charging

hey guys, i just installed my motor from my 93 into my 90 after a rebuild and i got everything hooked up and my volt guage is pinned at 18 when on the throttle and when i let off it returns to normal. my batterys are sizzling and this thing is charging hard, what is causing my issue?

Did you stay with the external regulator from the 90 model?

i also had the rad support out an dpainted all that, and the frame rails, so now that i think of it i might have a ground issue

im a '90, regulator external, dosent '92-'93 use pcm for output? schematic time. wires crossed.

Yes, i believe the 92 and 93 are pcm regulated, but if he kept all the 90 wiring it should'nt matter. My 91 was overcharging, replaced 2 regulators until i found corrosion in the 3 small wires going to the positive terminal on my battery. Fixed those wires and all has been good since then. But mine was overcharging at idle and all the the way up the rpm range.

i hear ya, problems are no charge with late trucks losing crank sense, to full field the alternator, must be power in the wrong place, there is a internal reg. option in the sticky, the output is simple, power the field, output,

fixed it i had another voltage regulator and installed that, good to go, i just had the wiring to the battery looked over during my dual battery install.
