I've ran both, The NV in my old junk and the Rag in the Old mans truck, If I had to pick one I'll stick with the NV4500. My old mans rag is the nicest shifting rag I've ever drove but I like the fact that I can abuse my NV without worries. I am not a getrag basher but the NV is a better unit PERIOD.
I have put my NV through 155,000 mile of 3rd gear boosted launches, sled pulls, and have generaly driven it like a race car for all that time, the last 40,000 have been with a solid hub button clutch and we all know those are not nice to transmissions. All I have ever done to the 4500 is change the oil in it and abuse it and it has never let me down. In fact just today I put 400 miles on it. It will need to get pulled this spring and get rebuilt as 4th gear is starting to get rattly, needs some new bearings. But this NV4500 owes me absolutly nothing.

Why don't you just do the flywheel - if it has some issues as you mentioned earlier - and your driveshaft for now. $700.- for parts that need replacing anyway, and it might allow you to wait on the tranny and the tcase.
