Talking Talked to Mike at HotRodDiesels, have a new plan now.....

This guy seems to know his stuff pretty well, and quickly admits when he doesnt know something. His shop truck runs 11.2's in the 1/4 on #2 only and hits a whopping 1300* doing it. Obviously he has something right in his combo.

I am going to find me a junk head and port it, seems the biggest factor in these old 12v's is the poor flowing head. Porting the head will make more power at the same boost level and greatly drop egt's. So then there is no real reason I couldnt run 350whp safely all day with a HTT IV/12cm wg, 2ng gen IC, CoolerPipes, DDP 4's, ported head, ported exhaust, and ported anything else I can get my grinder ahold of. lol

For 350 RWHP, start with the piston pump and a FP gauge jsut before the inlet of the IP. Sounds like you've got a good plan!

The only problem with junk heads is just that - they are junk. 12V heads are known for cracking. In talking with Mark at PDR they will not port anything but a new head.

First off let me say that having known Mike for several years, he truly is one of the nice guys in this industry.

But as far as the junk head idea goes I am with Bob on saying why waste good money on a bad head?

well actualy I was planing on getting a used head and using it, I didnt know they had cracking issues. I know I have seen ported heads for sell on some site but I cant find it anymore. I'd prefer to just buy a new ported head ready to go. I guess its cuz the way I grew up poor I like doing my own work and seem to be stuck in the "gotta do it cheap" mode. I get lots of looks from the neighbors with the old dodge but I dont care, I like it. It does look kinda funny in front of a new 4k sqft house. lol

I guess some things are better to get new and done right.
