Question Oiled air filters

I am wondering if those of us in the colder climates that run oiled air filters are doing any harm to our turbos/engines running them in our -40 temps???? We have to be sucking oil particles into the turbo........no????

Question

I have heard that even in warm areas like were I am it can leave residue on the compressor fins, as well as allow dirt through. Not sure about extreme cold, I would think that it help to negate the problem as opposed to exacerbating it. Most guys say to stick with a BHAF or factory pleated set ups. But thats just what I have heard, I am running a stock size K&N so what do I know! And I live in the Hot Desert!

Thats my .02

D-C out!

If your trying to keep dirt out of the turbo. Don't buy or use an oil charged filter.
It is really like having a fine screen with oil on it........hoping the dirt sticks to the oil and don't go thru the holes in it...............Do they flow air????? YES!!!!!!!!!

The only place i would us a K&N or the like, "oil charge filter" is at a place like a drag strip or the like

Rant over

THE biggest problem with the oiled filters is the user. Most put way too much oil on them thus sucking it into the turbo.

oiled filters and turbos dont mix!

I personally eroded some compressor blades with a K&N. It was not over oiled, I have been using them on gassers for years and loved them! High boost will pull that oil out and pull dirt through every time.

I say drag strip only. My deuce lincolns.

Happy with my BHAF and Outerwears. Water proof and I feel like it actually runs better that the K&N did.

we have a 5.9 that uses high oil because of the K & N, tried them on one truckbefore cummins tested them damage was allready done before we seen the test it only took it 100,000 miles to do it it now has 650,000 did not get worse after switch back, i am trying a afe7 on this one but it is built different than the k&n and is supose to meet cummins requirements

The BHAF cost me about $50 from airflo,I think that Caver Dave found the same thing through NAPA and it seems to me he said he got it for 30 and change. As for the outerwears I'd like to know that as well and where to get it.

outerwears to fit BHAF is about $30. They are water repellent and they are supposed to be replaced every year. Mine is 2 yrs old and is fine.

BHAF prices vary. I have bought them from $35-$65 dollars. Some folks build a mount for them. Mine is just mounted on factory intake hose and zip tied out of the way. (Yes, i may be a redneck).

If I had the money, and wanted to do it right, I would go with an ASA modifieds intake with a BHAF and an Outerwears prefilter. You can get the Outerwears in lots of colors just for fun. Try Hot Pink! It's Purrrdy!

Search for the ASA modifieds and the Outerwears websites. I just called Outerwears and told them i needed the waterproof prefilter for a "BHAF". They knew exactly what a BHAF was and asked me what color. Got here in 3 days.
