Dry or oiled intake filters?

I am getting ready to order a inake system. And I remember hearing something about the oiled filters arent good for the diesel trucks cause the turbo sucks the oil out of the filter. I will be hauling a race car to the races which will be in the dirt and it will be dusty, but thats only on the weekends. I narrowed my decision down to 2. The AFE stage 2 with the pro guard 7 or the AEM workhose. The workhorse is a dry filter. Anyone with either system is encouraged to help me decide.

I've got the AFE stage 2 on mine and love it. When the filter comes from the factory they aren't that oily. It's when people clean them they tend to over oil and that's no good. I am replacing mine when it gets dirty with the Pro Dry S filter so I don't have to bother oiling it. I think you'll be pleased with either intake. They're both good IMO.

AFE has a new dry filter out as mentioned above. I had the Proguard 7 on my 2nd gen and it was great! I just ordered the dry 'S' from the DTR store. AFE says if your going to do alot of off-roading, driving down dusty/dirt roads then the P7 is what they recommend. I think the dry 'S' will more then handle the off-roading that I do.

I also wanted to know if Volants system is any good? I like the idea of the box. Is heat really that critical? Would I be ok with AFE or AEM on the heat issue?

Lary doesn't have everything he has in stock on the website. If you need it CALL! The prices in the store are not the same as the ones you get if you call him since your a member. I saved a ton of $ ordering my intake and exhaust parts from DTR.

Call Lary! He hooked me up. The dry filters are classified as "51".

the shop at home tested the aem dry filter on a '05 cummins and were very dissapointed, it was barely over stock cfm. they said stick with the oiled filters, and as mentioned above, just don't over oil them. they are way better if you are going to be doing a lot of dusty driving.

I agree. The guys at my shop said the same thing about some of the dry filters and their systems on the market. I would go with the oiled filter or proguard 7. You can use a prefilter on the oiled filters for extra protection.

The AFE dry filter is called the Pro Dry. If you want the entire stage two system the part number is 51-10932. They don't seem to be widely stocked at this point. But soon!

Nope, the Pro Guard 7 is an oiled filter. The Pro Dry S is the dry filter.

Nope! The Proguard 7 is the gold, oiled filter. The Dry 'S' is the new dry filter. The blue filter is the standard oiled filter.
