Oil and filter recommended
What part number oil filter should I use and what brand and type of oil. I want to change oil tonight. Rig is a 92 W250 with 5spd getrag and 139,000 miles. Also, how many quarts of oil will I need? 11 or 12? Sorry but I couldn't find this info in the sticky. Thanks.

12qts of oil. Get gallon jugs (12qts=3gals) a they would be cheaper than getting single quarts. Make sure you get Heavy Duty oil. The filter saga is this "Anything BUT Fram." I run a Wix in mine.
There is still debate on synthetic in our engines. Synthetic is more slippery and probably get past the rings on the pistons.
I run 15w-30 Rotella HD. Really great! Also Castrol would be a good brand too.

Look for Schaeffers Synthetic blend in the 15w40 series 7000. If you use there oil you can get free oil analysis anytime and can run there oil up to 15k miles. For a filter fleetgaurd lf 3349 or lf 3959 will get you a good one. Fleetguard is made by cummins so its a good one, IMO.

Buy name brand 15W-40 diesel motor oil on price, it's all very good stuff.
I've been running Purolator filters on mine recently - Pep Boys had a coupon that said "all Purolator oil filters $2.99" and a $2.98 per filter rebate.

On a truck that's not grossly overfueled, 7500 miles or yearly is enough unless the truck makes a lot of short trips. If you're dumping a lot of fuel in, it needs to be changed more often (3-5k) to get rid of the soot.

I had been using Rotella until lately. I have switched to Delvac and like it quite a bit. It doesn't seem to be consuming as much of it as it did with the Rotella.

I use royal purple and normally a fleetguard or baldwin filter. I decided to try a mobil 1 filter this time. It's the best we had at autozone. Supposedly really well built. Anyone know who makes them by chance?
