OD Column Shifter Wire Clearance
I installed the new shifter but it looks like there's clearance problems between the wire and the steering column covers. The wire lines up with the track for the sliding plastic closure piece - or whatever you call that! How do you route that wire to clear everything.
I took some real nice pics but can't seem to post them. Nothing at the top of the Message box works.

There's a picture in my album that shows the clearance problem. For those of you who have done this mod. are you not having this problem? Seems like the insulation on the wires would wear through and the wires would short out? BTW, it does work, I just don't have the covers on.
I sure wish I could post the picture here! Don't know what the problem is.

Thanks to whoever posted the pic for me! For some reason my javascript isn't working so nothing outside the text box works. Think it was a McAffe or HP or Microsoft update that caused the problem?
So, how do I get that wire to clear? Are there some different column covers?

Is the picture with the shifter in 1st? I didn't modify anything but I also don't remember the wires being an issue.
Won't they tuck in closer to the column under the bottom cover and let the little plastic cover slide over the top of them?
Sorry I'm not much help...

Hmmm, either way, under top cover or bottom cover, the wire is coming out of the shaft right where the sliding plastic piece needs to be. I'd bet that the 2nd gens have different column covers. I just don't want to have a problem later if the wire wears through. Problems like that usually happen on the way to work or in a blizzard on Donner Summit!! Of course, in a blizzard I won't need OD.

Yea I fell in love with the flat fender Power Wagons when I was a kid. My grandfather sold Chryslers and I can remember being in the showroom with the R/Ts, Super Bees, 'Cudas etc but it was the Power Wagons that really caught my eye. It will pull down a barn, but on the road she ain't fast and stops even slower. The winch is the handiest (dang sinking tractors).
Many are dropping 4BTs into them now. Cool.
Where did you get your shifter? I see from the pic where the wires come out right at the cover. Mine didn't stick out that far.

When I was 9 or 10 I made my dad take me to Swift Dodge in Sacramento so I could see the new cars. They had the R/T Challengers and Chargers, but they also had a Charger Daytona - made my month!
No room in a flat fender PW for a 6BT non IC?
I got the shifter from the dealer based on the part # in the sticky.

Never got to see the Daytona in the showroom, cool.
I remember the topless Ramchargers in there too, a big orange one.
The 6BT I think will fit, seems like some have done it, especially if you moved the grill forward like the later model flathead. Not sure if it takes firewall mods or not. The 4BT is lighter and probably enough hp/tq for the truck although they are HEAVY! The PW Forum has sections on diesel repowers. M37s are a popular swap too. http://powerwagonadvertiser.com/forums/index.php
I got my shifter out of a gasser in a scrap yard with a bunch of other parts, not sure what it cost eactly, $5-10? I've seen them on ebayfor $20+.
I looked at my shifter today and my wires look to be in the same spot as yours. I can barely see them around the opening. Did it last summer and so far so good...

I paid $40 + some change, including tax, at the *******. Around here dismantlers (what they're called in CA) think there stuff is gold. Would probably make you buy the whole column too!
The Daytona was HemiOrange but had a 440 4bbl - no Hemi.
About the wire, I'm thinking that I should sleave it with some tubing before stuffing under the cover.
Thanks
