look up replacement parts for the nv5600................good luck.
still a good tranny dont get me wrong . iam just not interested in shifting 3 times through a intersection. and if you jump gears why bother.just get the cheap and tough nv4500 with the big input..

and if you dont think the nv5600 is notchy and finiky to shift you are lying

if you want a manual to tow get the g56......then the nv5600
if you want a manual to play get the nv4500

if you want best of both worlds BUILD A AUTO

i looked high and dry for a manual as my truck does 90% towing.
the swap would have cost me more then the $5000 dollar tranny i bought

the cheapest 6 speed i could find was $1500 plus clutch/bellhousing/slave/pedal assembly/drive shaft mods etc.

REMEMBER TO EACH THERE OWN.

i love manuals in toy's just not the tow rig.

when i pass you on the next big climb with a cold drink in my hand ill wave
I respect your opinion, but I do not appreciate being called a liar.

Now, with that out of the way, I have driven a 96 with an NV4500 and 2 trucks with an NV5600 and I have driven them a LOT. I have never found the 5600 any harder to shift than a 4500.

I have also driven a 2006 with a G56. The G56 is a good transmission, but it is not quite as strong as the 5600, plus the G56 has a dual mass flywheel which really sucks if you add any power. Like you said, to each his own but I would much prefer my 5600 over a G56 for pulling. However, I do agree that the 4500 is probably the best for playing.

I didn't mind shifting the 96 model I had with the 4500 but the 05 model 5600 I have now is a pain to shift by comparison. That's my only complaint about the truck.

I have a NV 4500 plus a gear vendors overdrive in my '98 which gives me 8 spds, easy shifting and a towing pleasure. I also have a very good '02 auto , even with the gear vendors in it it doesn't match the 4500 for mountain towing. Just did 3000 miles in it and I'm going in the 8spd the next trip. Sure nice in town though!

I already have the NV4500 in my truck. I just thought the NV5600 would be more fun. But maybe it won't be.

My nv5600 shifts great, which kind of leaves me a little confused at all of the notchy and/or generally difficult shifting I keep reading about with the transmission. There's a slight notchyness when it's "cold" (where I live, 50 degrees is cold) on the first few shifts, and sometimes it takes a second for second to fully engage when I start in first, but it otherwise slips right in. While I'm here, can anyone tell me if there's any drawback to using first full-time?

My nv5600 isn't notchy at all. My brother's g56 (6.7), however, leaves you waiting about a month for each gear.
