break-in metal in the NV5600
On another thread, I advised someone with a new NV5600 transmission to open up the driver's side PTO plate and clean off the big magnet when he changed the fluid -- going by my experience there would be a lot of metal on it.

Muddymess replied by writing: "when installing my fastcoolers i was suprised,,,,,,,,no,,,,,,ALARMED at the amount ofmetal in there".

Well, come to think of it, I was surprised by the amount of metal on the big magnet, too. But then I swabbed out the transmission using white cloth and an extension magnet, and found that *all* the metal had collected on the big magnet -- there wasn't a trace anywhere else. And the drained fluid was clean.

So considering that the NV5600 is a big transmission with a lot of surfaces to break in, I decided not to worry about it -- normal break-in, probably.

On the other hand -- has anyone noticed a "surprising" amount of metal when working with NV5600's? It's probably something those of us with the 6 speed ought to nail down, since two of us had the same reaction.

Thanks!

GP

GP, I changed my fluid at 22,000 miles when I put on Fast Coolers. I actually found very little metal on the magnet and in the oil, much less than I expected. My trans seems to be a good one so far, I don't have any grind issues except when my brain and left leg get out of sync.

Sam
