nv4500 vss wiring help
I figured I would throw this out to all you gurus before I started throwing parts at it. I just finished up my NV 4500 swap in my 93 and I'm down to wiring of the VSS. the transmission is from a 2002 Duramax but it was in a 95 Chevrolet with a 96 ppumped Cummins motor. it has the upgraded larger billet input shaft and fully splined main And the clutch is a south bend dual disc 3600. I read that after a certain year they moved the VSS to the rear axle but this transmission has a plugin in the tail housing. I'm wondering if I get the pigtail from Napa and plug it in and wired up if my speedometer will work or if I will have to get some kind of adapter from Dakota digital. any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance. Here's a pic of the plug in the tail housing.
Yes it is. I only have one other picture at the moment but it will only let add a link since i already attached the picture to another thread you had. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...412_094337.jpg
If they updated it with an updated Cummins NV4500 main shaft then it might not have the proper set-up on the shaft to even generate a signal? I would want to pull it out and see what's going on inside first.

Well i just had the transmission gone through before i installed it, and it's in the truck already so I'm really not a fan of pulling it out again. i know i should have had the shop look at it first
but it's too late now

It looks as though there is a magnet on the sensor i took out and a tooth missing from the gear it reads off of inside the tail housing. I hooked it up just for kicks and barley moved the truck and it said i was going 45mph.
I'm just curious if this Dakota digital thing will adjust the signal.http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=126/category_id=287/mode=prod/prd126.htm. thank you again for all your input so far thrashingcows. I appreciate it

Could you not just swap on a tailhousing from a 2wd NV4500? They did use a dodge cummins main shaft? So it should go on with no issue then.
The early 94-96-ish units still had a VSS running off the tailshaft. I had one on my 95 2wd NV4500 in my crewcab. Then you can use all factory arts to get your speedo working properly.
