NV4500 shifter removal ???

I'm swapping my auto for a stick in my 92 w250.

What is the trick to remove the shifter from a 1994 nv4500?

I saw some SST tool in one of my manuals but I'm sure there must be another way to remove and install it.

Any help wood be great.

I usually use 2 straight bladed screwdrivers, one on each opposing "corner" of the cap.
I push DOWN and turn it to the left and the cap usually will pop up.

It takes a bit to do it and sometimes I end up putting a slight notch in the corners for the blades to catch on.

Getting it back in is the same in reverse, but isn't ridiculously hard.

Mark.

I use a big pair of channel locks and a extra set of hands. A lot easier out of the truck but to install you have no choice. When removing I push down on the shifter and my extra hands (dad) uses the channel locks and turns the cap until it pops up.
