1994 Dodge NV4500. How do you remove the shifter? Can I remove the shifter from the stub sticking out of the top of the trany or do I remove the whole thing?

 

To do so take off the boot,
You will he looking at where the shift lever goes into the tranny.
There will be a ring that you can push down that is around the shifter assembley. Push it down and turn it, should come out ofter that.

 

As said above. I usually put a screwdriver on the ring and hit it down and counter clockwise to pop it loose. Putting it back together seems to be the worst on these trannies.
