NV4500 help
Hey everyone,
I have done some searching but have not found what I am looking for. maybe you can clue me in... I have a 95 chevy k3500 with the 5 speed in it and I also have a 93 5.9 to install in this truck. my question is what do I need to put between the engine and the trans? I know that I will have to change the input shaft on the trans but what plate and bell would work best? any help is greatly appreciated

To the best of my understanding... The NV4500 main case is the same all around the board. Every application of the NV4500 is the same bolt pattern where it bolts to the bell housing. The same is true for the Cummins castings for 89-98 12 valve blocks. Ok from here, the length and diameter of the chevy application input shaft is different then the dodge. So first you need an input shaft, from a dodge application.
Next considerations are where you can get confused. The bell housing from a 94-98 nv4500 application in a dodge will not mate to a first gen adapter plate. The adapter plates, starter and flywheel are a set. Even the clutch is different in the 94-98. So you could opt to buy these components as a set from a 94-98 dodge strip your adapter, flywheel, and starter off and install the newer model stuff. This with a bell housing from a 94-98 gets you there.
Alternatively. I believe advanced adapters sell an adapter bell housing that mates the NV4500 to your original first gen adapter plate and flywheel. Leaving you with all first gen components and an advanced adapter bell housing. I have in my mind they are around $400 for the adapter. Maybe way off base. I think the decision depends on what you have at hand. If you have a manual first gen with all those components an adapter is probably the most economical choice. If you can find a donor 94-98 and strip all the parts you need including a tranny that would be the way to fly. It is probably going to cost a chunk beyond just having a tranny that will work from a chevy. Hope this helps, and also hope my information is correct.
