Angry NV4500 getting harder to shift, help!

Is there any standard trans experts out there? The NV 4500 in my 99 Ram 2500 CTD is getting harder to shift. Kind of snappy like is the best way to describe it. Snaps out of gear, with effort, and snaps into the next gear. The faster I go the harder it is. It also seems to be getting hard as time goes by. It used to be a very smooth and effortless operation.
I changed the special oil (23.00 per quart ) hoping it was just the old oil had given up. No change from that.
I was reading where it could be the pilot bearing going bad. But I hate to pull the trans just to find out it is not that.
Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks
