My gitarag left me walking for the last time and im planning on doing a nv4500 conversion on my 93 4x4. Has anyone used the advanced adapter conversion? whats the best conversion kit out there? Do I need to shorten driveline? Im in the nothwest can anyone recommend a good tranny rebuild shop here or any guru's that I could talk to? Im in Port townsend, Wa. anybody want a noisy getrag?

 

well i did a nv4500 conversion in my 93 w-250
i am pertty close to being done i have driven it on the freeway
so i know that part works so far i did mine with out a kit

again no advice on the kit the one part i got i am did
not like so went to a differnt source .

 

I did mine with out a kit as well. You need to change the engine adapter to the 94 and up style, and the starter, and clutch slave. I used the 94 clutch, but from what I have heard you can use the 93 and earlyer if you like. The kits are a lot of money and usaly use a different bell houseing insted of changing the adapter. I got my adapter from a wrecker for 100 bucks.
I figeured I wanted to use factory parts, so if I was in the middle of nowhere, I could find parts if I broke something. As for the drive shafts I cant help you for mine was a transplant into a chevy at the same time.

 

I used the kit from advance adapters and was a very straightforward install. The only specality piece was the bellhousing, and it was so that you can use the factory master/slave cylinder setup as well as the factory starter. The driveshaft didnt have to be modified either.

 

I just did the conversion last week ! used the AAdapter < nice easy set up ! the only tuff part is finding a nv4500 ! prices are very high < no more being made !! SUCKS ! good luck !!

 

i am in the process and would recommend going with the newer style engine plate. the clutch will most likely work since from 89-98 or even 02 they are the same size aftermarket. and i dontknow if you have looked into the nv4500 that much but from what i have seen standard transmission and gear are reasonable but i ended up buying one locally through a kit that used the stock parts off a newer truck.

 

ahh just put a properly setup getrag in it and be done with it

 

A local guy hear has a bunch of NV4500, cant get rid of them, He will build them with all new bearings and sincros for $1100.
I put one in my 92 4WD. did not change the drivelines.
I did it from scratch, now kit.
I also put an NV5600 in my 2WD truck
