NP205 speedo gear

I have pretty much narrowed down my 1/2 speedo to a wrong speedo gear in my Tcase. I'm not sure what gear is suppose to be in there, as my PO has had his fingers in there and had a problem with his non-working VSS. I would like to know what color and / or part # this should be for 3.55 ratio? And where one could be sourced? I have been through the 3 grounds, behind engine, core support by battery, and under the dash. Swapped out clusters, and I am getting a slow signal From the VSS, Does the ratio adapter INCREASE or DECREASE the revs on the speedo? Thanks, Artie

I changed out my transmission/transfer case not too long ago. I went from the 518 that came in my truck (3.54) to a Getrag from a 4.1 gear ratio truck. My speedo without the adapter box is roughly 30% off....30% low without the adapter.

Good luck, I wonder if yours has the same problem as mine. The piece that the square drive VSS goes into with the gear on the end is stripped out on its inside dimension. I can wrap tape around the shaft5 and it will work for a couple days, then it just goes erratic again.

I have searched and called all over the place and that part is no longer available for the 205 TC. If you find any one who has these post up, because I am at a loss as to what to do. I just bought a cheap GPS navigator and use it for my speedo.

I would solder it using a acid core solder to build it up and then file it square, then grease it????

It's the female part that is my problem. I think the old VSS locked up and rounded it out. I am considering drilling a hole in the threaded part so I can stake it with a punch. But like I said the GPS does well 98% of the time.

Mr extreme, would the part you need be in an older np203 Tcase? And do we with a 205 have a red 7 tooth driving gear?

follow-up

I do have a 7 or 8 toothed tan gear in my tcase. I remembered that GM used an speedo adapter in the 73 and newer with 3.07 gear, I put that in and the speedo is only 3% off, close enough to get my cruise to work, Thanks, Artie

I don't have any idea if they're the same, but you might check the part numbers & info I just posted in this thread this morning. Might cross reference to your needed NP205 P/N's? Hope so...
