not what i expected
i decided to install a boost gauge while waiting for my new converter. i was hoping to see some befor and after's with my boost and pyro gauges. i was surprised how much boost i didn't have!! when i take of from a stop with a heavy foot i get about 10lbs. the only time i saw more was when i went up a hill with the pedal to the floor hit about 20lbs. i was expecting more. does this seem right? i hear that people peg their 30lb gauges all the time?
i always thought my truck was a turd, i just thought it was the converter....

X2.. With bad trans it will be hard to get a good load on it to get the guage climbing.. With a few mods on my truck with the converter unlocked I can barely hit 20psi, "Slippin like a ****" With it locked up I can tap 30 all day long.. My fuel screw is barely above factory too.. FOR NOW!!

look for boost leaks, definely.
theres no way your converter is that bad unlesss its been towing 15,000 pounds up and down the rocky mountains with a sumo wrestler in the bed.
Where'd you locate the boost gauge? in the 1/8 port right below the intake? where the plug was?
check from turbo to i/c elbow for leaks, elbow to inlet pipe on i/c and make sure your intercooler is'nt full of mud/dirt, check the boots from the intercooler to the piping and so on, maybe on of your boots is loose.

On my 93 rag with screw in tight I can hit 32 psi. Its a turd getting there though. It might very well be the converter not loading your engine. Before I turned in the fuel screw I could hit 22 pounds with just high idle screw removed and fuel cone turned to deepest. This is with the standard so it will atleast load the engine. As said above whats you egt's? If your at 20 psi an you are smoken hot on egt's then maybe there is a boost leak. When I hit 32 psi in 5th gear up a hill I am right at 1200 degrees. That is with the 60mm GDS compressor.
Bradshaw106 my 92 is the same way. It has fuel pump mods ect., 20/21 psi boost is it. No leaks in the hump hoses, tubes, or the i/c. Pressure checked all. Turbo housing will probably cure it. My slush box trans wouldn't hold anymore power anyways, at 17/18 psi boost it starts slipping. The 5sp 93 w/same mods will blow away the tires and boost 32 psi. All's good tho NV4500 in the floor for the 92. Speed just cost money/how fast you wanna go broke!! Good luck.
My 92 will hit 30psi real easy. Not sure how good or bad your TC is but I would suspect that. Like the other guys said what are the EGT's? One last thing, do you still have the big exhaust housing on there? Going to a 16cm like mine or maybe even a 12cm would help a bunch to.
