is this normal?

Hello, I took the beast out for a drive the other day and noticed something that I didnt before. When I hit a pothole or big bump the front end seems to hit like there are no shocks.(hits hard) The guy I bought the truck from had the frontend rebuilt and new shocks put on about a year ago. I know the diesels are heavy and there is a lot of weight above the front tires but is this normal. I dont want to try to fix a problem that is normal for these trucks. This is on a 2wd truck. THANKS

That does not seem normal for a 2WD. mines quite smooth, my 4WD is a bit rough. I would make sure your suspension isnt sitting on the stops. The 2WD front springs tend to get week and sag.

Does the truck sit up level or is it nose-low? There are some springs out there that must also fit Electro-Motive applications and sometimes guys have them installed to level the truck. Problem is that the springs put you all the way up on the upper bump stops, so the suspension has no down travel at all.

Hello, well I crawled under the truck today and the springs look fine. I couldnt find any cracks or breaks. Also the shocks have to be fairly new, they are still clean and not rusted yet. I dont know whats up I guess I will drive it some more and see what happens.
wannadiesel, the truck sits pretty level, maybe a tad bit nose down. I will post again someday if I ever figure it out. Thanks guys

Look to see how much gap you have between the upper control arm and the down travel stop. If it's less than an inch, you have the locomotive springs and the rough ride is "normal".

Checked the gap and its right at 1inch maybe a hair more. Is this about normal? If not what is the fix? Different springs? Thanks again

That sounds kinda tight for the stock springs, but I don't know how squooshed mine are. I'll measure mine and let you know.
