No Reverse

I was out plowing with my first gen with the 727 tranny and its lost reverse. I have forward 1st and 2nd, fluid was low so i added some but it just tries to move but slips? Do you think the band just needs adjusting ? I have not adjused it in quite some time, but it was working fine earlier today when i was plowing.

Just started it up and it did move but was slipping, the fluid is cold in it now, and not hit like it was earlier

i'm no 727 expert, but whats the fluid look like? drain it and see if it's cooked. refill and add some lucas tranny fix. might get you some more use out of her, but doesn't sound promising

I agree it doesn't sound promising.
Maybe after some fresh fluid you can keep yard plowing with it in L range only.

just to add a little something on the lucas tranny fix, in case you're doubting it's worthiness.

I had a 64 ford falcon with a ford-o-matic 2 speed auto. when i bought it as a "running/driving" project, I thought the trans was shot. banged into gear, slid into gear, sometimes didn't go into gear, all kinds of problems. well I wanted to drive it while i did the body work one panel at a time so I drained it and when i filled it I used 2 qts of that lucas tranny slip or whatever it's called. i drove it every weekend for another year and probably 3000+ miles and you would've thought it had a brand new tranny in it.

I'm with Fonder on the Lucas ATF additive, or any Lucas product for that matter. I put in a quart of the Lucas non slip, stop leak transmission additive product along with the ATF+4 at every 12,000 ATF drain and refill(bands adjusted, too, of course)

Everytime that I have lost a transmission,
there were extra parts in the pan,

Try some Lucas and maybe you will buy some time.
Good Luck

Thanks guys, I talked to a friend who does transmissions and said that the seals harden inside and causes loss of pressure, which was common in this tranny. So I assume when I tried to move it several hours after I got home sitting in 5 degree weather the oil thickened thus forcing the pressure up and made the truck move.. at least I can get it inside if I have some reverse to pull the tranny

I snapped a band once on a 89 with 727 I had. New tranny and flywheel fixed it. Not cheap.

Lol, I agree that Lucas makes an awesome product, but it only got me about a week in my old lady's durango. Then there were parts in the pan. Put a getrag in that thing, and do a clutch every few years. Good luck man.
