pyro gauge goes in the exhaust manifold and measures the exhaust gas temperatures coming from the exhaust to the turbo. VERY important. and dont feel bad in any way asking questions that is how you learn. and to read about diesels......this site is so stocked with knowledge you will probably rarely have to go somewhere else!!

I didn't AND STIIL DON"T know much but you can learn a lot by reading what they are writing. BHAF = big honking air filter. Took me a while to find out what that meant. RAG = getrag 5 speed standard. Read up on "pump mods" and that will teach you a bunch. Sticks = injectors. 3200 spring or 366 spring = a govenor spring that replaces stock spring to increase rpm's.

Currently the Diesel Power magazine is doing a project truck using a 1st gen it has given me some good ideas on what to do with my rig and as stated this site is priceless with the information it has on these trucks/engines.

Thanks for the info and welcomes. I am just getting into investigating what I actually have. Are there any major/minor improvements for a stock rig without getting into rebuilding anything? I have a few projects going with gassers now and don't want to start another one just yet. Is there any other gauges that are important? I would like to put a tach in and have always leaned toward Autometer for my gauages and tachs.

Is there any place to buy replacement rear fenders?

I know the tranny has been changed from the getrag but I am not sure to what.

I bought it to pull the camper or trailor so I was thinking of trans cooler but I have not looked to see if it has one or not. I figure additional cooling will not hurt anything.

I know one thing it is geared LOW! and the tranny seem sto be the same way, which is great for pulling but not so great for just driving.

Thanks for the replies

Manuals dont have transmission coolers. Autos do, and most people install an auxillary in front of the rad. If your manual is getting that hot, cry.

When I first got my truck I thought it had 4:10s. If your truck does 140km/80mph its got 3:54s. (with stock tires)
