Cigar smokers-anyone built their own humidor?
Cigar smokers-anyone built their own humidor?
I just got back from a trip to the Turks and Caicos islands and reignited (sorry that was a bad pun) my love for cigars. Many restaurants down there offer Cohiba, Montecristo, and Romeo y Julieta on the dessert menu next to the cheesecake and ice cream. Anyway, I was thinking of buying a humidor, but its always more fun to make it yourself. I found a few tips online, but I was wondering if its just easier to buy one that will adequately control temperature/humidity.
If you are a serious woodworker then they can be fun to make. But, they are pretty precise and can't be slapped together otherwise they won't seal correctly.
Places like Woodcraft and Rockler sell the stuff to monitor and make the humidor stay at the right humidity.

I thought about making one but you can buy one for less than half of what the materials would cost. I have 2. I have a small plastic travel-dor that holds 10 for my truck. Then I have a spanish cedar one for the house that holds 150 or so. You can get good deals from time to time. Check 2guyssmokeshop.com. Sometimes they have them so ridiculously low in price that you'd have to buy one. They had a deal going one time where they had a small humidor, cigar cutter, calibri torch, cigar ashtray, a tub of odor eliminator, and 10 cigars for $29.99 I was amazed at the quality for the price. I wasn't expecting much. I gave that one to my brother.
