New front springs
New front springs
Went to a BOMB party yesterday up in Samammish, WA and installed a new set of front springs. I installes the MOOG Chassis K7226S springs. They are the one ton super heavy duty springs. This brought my front end up nicely. My truck now actuallys sits level. This is the first time that has been the case since I bought the truck almost 9 years ago. The ride is a little stiffer but not as rough as the 4X4 trucks have.
Unfortunately, I also discovered I need new ball joints. :'( Guess I will be taking the rig in on Monday for that. Does anyone know about the MOOG enhanced design ball joints for our trucks?
BTW, I would definitely say the springs were worth it.

I was wondering the same thing myself after reading the ad blurb on a counter mat at one of my local parts stores yesterday. Anybody?

Re:New front springs
Be careful when getting replacement balljoints. On the 2wd's espeacially, there was a heavy duty and light duty version of the D250s. Obviously, if you have the Cummins engine you have the HD version. But there are also Screw-in and press-in type balljoints on this Generation of truck. We just went threw this problem a few days ago at the shop I work at and at my dad's company. When we put the Light duty ball joints(not Knowing they were LD) on a 91 Cummins D250 Extended cab long bed they lasted the guy about a week and they were shot. So we had to go in and replace all 4 again with the correct ones at our cost(parts people).

Yes they do have the 4000# front end ... even though every time I have asked about front end parts, everyone tries to sell me the 3300# parts. They are quite a bit cheaper so I guess they just assume that is what I want. I've made it std. practise of asking if it is for the 4000# front end. Most of the time there response is "oh, let me check."
The lowers are press in and the uppers are screw in (at least on mine.) Had a shop try to rpess out a screw in upper a couple years ago. Ended up with a new control arm out of that one.

Yea, I have not been able to prove it but I believe that was the reason we got the LD front end parts. My boss is one of those guys that knows everything about nothing that he has ever done or learned about and even thought the head tech in the shop is L1 Master ASE certified with over 18 Years experience, my boss always knows better. I mean, how else could daddy have sold the buisiness to him?
