new 93 W350 on road trip, some questions
You can't fuel your own vehicle in NJ
I was cruising through with the jeep a few years back, hopped out, started to fuel up and the guy just stood there looking at me, not really sure what to do
I must have shot him a heck of a look 'cause he just turned and briskly walked away. Then I read the sign and felt kinda dumb
Maybe I'd glad that guy sold that 93 out from under me (long story, but I had bought a decent looking (minimal rust, needed a pump) for $800, and the day I was leaving, he called and said someone had offered him a grand
. I informed him his parents were in fact NOT married at the time of his conception, along with several other facts of which he was not aware).
15mpg does sound a little low at first, but my mom only gets 17-19 with her 2wd xcab dually. New pump and injectors, rebuilt stock/junk auto. So, considering your speed, and the aerodynamics (or lack thereof), and the fact you have no clue what kind of shape your injectors, valves, etc are in, it isnt too bad. Doing a valve adjustment, changing all fluids and filters, checking injector pop/ spray condition, and checking your pump timing, you can potentially gain 2-4mpg. Or you could stay where you're at. I have noticed that I usually drop 1-2mpg in the rain- increased resistance to push through.
I still dont think 18-20, with an occasional 21 is too much to ask for from andy 1stGen. You may not get it at 75- maybe 65- but I still think 13-16 is low for hwy MPGs.

I think I read on here about another state like that. Oregon maybe? That nonsense wouldn't work here these days though. Many stores are closing early because they can't find enough staff. Nobody wants an $8/hour job.
Dave- very funny line!
Sooo true. But it's not about danger, its pampering. Lately, the Hess stations are making us diesel guys fuel up because they are so understaffed from a country which is apparently light years behind the middle east. I guess they haven't caught on to the ever-polite and efficient Pakistani Fuel Tech. Fine by me, I notice the price is a little better than the full serv stations. I don't need their help spilling my money all over my truck and the ground. I can manage to not do that for $0/hr. Usually when they see trucks like ours they let you pump whatever you want. I guess they figure we're hands on type of people. And, it gives the attendant more time to ignore the lines of people waiting to hand over their first born. Some of the women with their Power Smoke horse haulers and Excursions don't like it too much though. We need attendants here in Jersey, if the average person can't drive after all the years of practice and technology, how can we expect them to figure out the pump? Any way they can't be bothered, it interrupts their phone calls and gets their hands dirty.
