New 1st Gen Owner....hopefully. Help

So I have been a member here for quite some time and my Chevy dropped a valve seat last fall and got rid of her. I have been looking around and I am just looking for a pickup that will get from A to B and be easy on fuel.

I am currently looking at a 91.5 RCLB 2x4 5sp CTD. No rust, crappy redone paint job, 155,000 miles, A/C PW PL all work, doesn't burn/leak ANY oil, good clutch and transmission, pump is untouched (bone stock truck), front end is good and tight. What do you guys think?

I am NEW to Dodges and have heard both good and bad things (the engine-good, the wiring-bad). I just want a reliable pickup that I won't have to wrench on every week.

Please help me and tell me what to look out for. Thank you!

Sounds like a good truck! How much is the seller asking? At 155k, she's a baby!

It won't be anything like a 6.0L powerstroke as you won't have to sink anywhere near $10,000 into it to make it reliable.

Yea, I understand there will be some things that have to get done with age, wear & tear, etc. but as long as I don't have to replace something major for over a year, I will be a happy fellow.

Him and I agreed upon $3,500.

FINE....Yall convinced me. I clicked the "Buy It Now" option this morning after much thought and time spent on the phone with the seller. I told him straight up that I will pay cash in person and if the vehicle is NOT what he described and is a complete POS, then I will simply turn back around and drive home.

Wish me luck and I will be sure to post pics if it all pans out.

I have done my fair share of time spent searching various topics on here for the past week and reading the stickies so I am hoping I will have a general idea on what to expect.

I work on my truck every week...lol...and it is what I would consider a fine upstanding 1st gen...but it's 20 years old...and I bought it at that 150k area, where usually a bunch of stuff needs to be replaced, and usually the original owners dump em before they fall into the money pit.

I'm right there now. My wife's owned the truck since '96, and never touched ANYTHING, ( ) including greasing the chassis, . So, There's going to be a rather large amount of new hardware going on. On the other hand, when it's all done it should be as good as new!

Luckly FOR ME I DON'T HAVE TO WORK ON my 91 all the time ,and thats because i have a 91 f250 to take up the rest of the time. But their cheaper than a new one, your price & the way your looking at the truck sounds smart and the price is right, good luck.

At times, I have dropped some heavy coin on the rig, but when I average everything out over the 10 years that I have owned it, it comes out pretty cheap...Mark

Well I had a 1993 Chevy 6.5TD (mechanical) 4x4 and I know what it's like to do the little stuff here and there to keep em on the road. As long as this new truck starts better in winter, I will be a happy camper.

I figured a set of tire chains would be much cheaper than forking out the cash for a rust free 1st Gen 4x4 5sp with 150k on it when it comes to getting around in the snow. I also think I should expect a little better fuel mileage when it comes to driving everyday.
