neutral safety switch

Hi guys! my truck decided not to start today so I jumped the starter and it started. I thought that maybe I had a bad ignition switch because I wasn't getting a signal to the starter. I finally figured out that it is the neutral safety switch on the clutch rod. Is this an expensive part? Do they wear out or just get dirty? Maybe it would be worth my time to take it out and clean it up and test it? For now I'm just going to loop a wire and bypass it because I have to make a trip to San Diego but I'd like to fix it correctly when I get back. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Jeff

If it's similar to the one on the auto, it's not the best type of connector.....

Well I'm back from my trip. Wow nobody ever had problems with the neutral safety switch I guess. I would think that it's different than the auto. Mine has a hole running through it and slides over the clutch cylinder shaft and has a tension spring. Guess I'll experiment. Thanks for the reply.

Mine went out, so I just cut the wires and spliced them together. Been that way for a couple years now.

While not best for safety my dads got a couple of trucks this was as well. I left the connector there though and put a wire between them. Is on cheby trucks.

I cut mine and re-routed the wires to make a kill switch after having the truck broken into.
