Need a part number for an external Voltage Regulator

Well I have been unsuccessful in trying to solve the charging issue with this 93 that i have, sometimes it works fine, other times it does not work at all. I have switched relays along the drivers fender and nothing, traced all wiring best i can looking for broken/exposed wires and nothing, cleaned all connections and nothing. My guess is that the CSS is faulty. I have read on here that i can put an external Voltage Regulator on and bypass the CSS and get everything working again. My question is, which Voltage regulator do i need, i read and old chrsyler one works well. I am looking for a part number for one so that i can purchase it or for a napa part number so i can buy one of those, thanks for the help

Just lie to 'em and tell them you need the regulator and pigtail for an '85 D250. Honesty usually confuses the parts store employee.

If you can't find anything wrong with the crank sensor and swapping the relay doesn't change anything, it's possible the regulator in the PCM is fried. Does any of the other stuff the crank sensor affects (A/C, overdrive, cruise) stop working when the truck isn't charging?

Yeah, when the truck is not charging, the AC does not blow cold, the overdrive does not work and not sure about the cruise, i am not sure that ever worked. But the radio will cut out when is not charging if i put on a blinker. I think it is a bad CSS but i read that you can by pass that with an external voltage regulator. Do you have a part number for the CSS from cummins? Thanks

Have you checked the gap on the crank sensor? Sometimes they shake loose and wind up way out of adjustment. I would replace the crank sensor before I put on an external regulator, especially on an automatic. Switching to an external regulator only fixes the charging system, you still have to deal with the other problems and the OD is the most troublesome.

I don't have a part number for the crank sensor. If you give your CPL and ESN to Cummins they will be able to figure it out.
