Need info on Diesel Exhaust Temp

Hey guys/gals,

If you have gauges.. I need to know what your exhaust temps are after the turbo.. and also how far behind the turbo your temp sensor is installed( in inches if possible)

I am working on a new idea and need to run some numbers..

ALso please let me know what kind of rig you have - IE: dodgem ford, etc..

Thanks in advance

PS: I am not worried about temp before turbo like most... I have an idea/invention and need to know what temps are after turbo when exhaust is exiting vehicle.. any help at all would be great - even if it best guess

Once upon a time I had the probe post turbo. Running in my 93 with stock injectors, lockup style trans, pump tweaked I would normally see 500 to 700 cruising. 800 if I floored it while cruising. Would go to 900 if I lugged it, at this point I backed out.

BTW all temps are in °F

My downpipe was tapped about 3 inches after the flange, give or take. The 'acceptable' limit is 950*F. What I've found in moving the probe before the turbo is that the post-turbo probe doesn't react quickly enough on a heavily fueled vehicle. A good run through the gears would give me 900 (post) by 4th gear, but with the same tuning I'm hitting 1100 (pre) in 3rd gear, with 1250 being the 'acceptable' pre-turbo limit. By the middle of 4th, I lose the courage to push anymore...

I think most people figure that that turbo eats up about 300*F between pre- and post-turbo temp readings.

The probe on my work truck is post turbo - I have it in the backpressure test port on the PacBrake. Truck is a 55,000# GVW tandem axle Sterling w/ 300 HP Cat 3126b in it. Max EGT seen is 1200, normal working temp is between 900 and 1100 degrees.
