need help buying truck

Hi, I am looking to purchase a first gen 4x4 2500 truck. what should I be looking out for when searching and what questions should I be asking to the current owners. thanks In advance Al

kind of a broad question and im poorat typing. there are pros and cons to different years. 89-91 1/2 are non intercooled. they have 3spd auto, or 5 spd - go for a 89 to 93 5spd. or 91 1/2 to 93 a/t or 5 spd. ask about modifacations etc.

thanks I think I made a mistake on generations I like the 94-99 years. so I guess I am looking at 2nd gen trucks. the truck will primarily be used to haul a slide in camper a few times a yr. And light around town projects. Al

2nd gen's ran from '94 to '02. I have a 98.5 under my care as well as my '93 so I can speak from experience. DO NOT buy a 98.5 - 02. If you want a 2nd gen, buy a '94 - '97. There are some guys who love the 24 valve engine, and it does have some pro's to it. But for the most part, the earlier 12 valve will wipe the floor with the 24 valve.
