If the truck was originally a cab & chassis, the wheelbase will be wrong. You would also need to fab up mounting brackets.

i thought that the po just scrapped the original bed and put a service bed on it. Is there anyway to tell if it is a cab and chassis truck?

'89 shortbed cummins? Hmmmm. I suggest putting a measuretape on it before you buy a bed. It's gonna either be an 8 foot bed or the cummins was a transplant.

I've got a decent bed off a '93 if you want it.
No rust, couple of small bends and
no tailgate but it's free if you come get it and help remove it.

So explain the flat frame concept... If we are talking that the frame is flat excepting where it traverses the axle, then I'll buy the concept.

For reference here is a shot from my 91 C&C when I had the bed off. Note the rise over the axles. The spacers mounted on top of the frame came from the factory to enable mounting a bed with a flat framework on top of the frame. My apologies about not having a shot 90* from the frame.
