My rendition of a really BHAF... chapter #3.

I'll try not to bore you too much with my story but....

I haven't been driving my truck much. The other day i drove it and was disappointed with performance. Normally the truck would run 40-42 psi of boost. Boost peaked at 38psi and dropped from there. Changed my fuel filter and it didn't help. Looked at my air filter and found my problem... looks like the Amsoil 4090 couldn't hang once it started to collect come dirt.

So anyway i ran my truck down the road without a filter and now 44psi. This was the difference from squawking the tires in 3rd gear only to no traction in 3rd and 4th gear. i was happily surprised so it was time to look for a bigger air filter.

so, i spend a few hours searching online and ended up finding the k&n 41-1400 which was the biggest i could find that would work with a 4" intake tube. i did some research and decided k&n isn't a bad choice if you know when and how to clean them so i picked it up. ill ask not to turn this into a k&n bashing thread please .

anyway heres the difference in size between the 4090 amsoil and the 41-1400 k&n...

Here are a pics of it bolted up.. i had to turn the intake tube upside down and 180* end to end to get it to fit... also there is a bracket on the stud at the end of the filter

Here you can almost see the end... it goes like 3" into the fender well.

As for "chapter 3"... here are my first 2 trys at air intake in the past few years.

Awesome!

Looks like I am putting a new air filter on my rig.

Where did you purchase your air filter from?

WOW! A giant pair of nylons would work good as a prefilter to keep bugs and the bigger crap from between the fins. Might wanna send someone else to buy em though.

i got it from Amazon.com because i get free shipping. you can get it from k&n's ebay store for the same price though... anywhere else the price starts to get a little high. i think i paid 80 bucks.

thats what i was shooting for... it was the biggest 4" inlet filter i personally could find. the filter material is 18" long and it is 7" in diameter so i thought that was pretty healthy sized. i though that amsoil might some big ones but there isn't really many options. i figured id give an oiled filter a try since i don't drive on dirt roads and it looks nice.

as for women's under garments... i was thinking of making my own pre-filter and just make it velcro the entire length so it can easily be taken off.. i was going to buy some nylon or polyester material from a fabric store but it just didn't feel the same as a normal outerwears fabric so I'm going to keep looking... the truck is locked up in the garage again so i have time to work on doing that right.

Another Variation on the BHAF

I modified a stock airbox for a true cold air intake with 5" through a 650cfm paper filter:

It has inlets through the front valence and a 4" tube extending 2' out from the rear of the box under the passenger side fender. Filter minder has not moved since adding that last mod.

Nadir, What air filter did you use? I like that set-up. I'm interested in trying that on my First Gen. Brand and filter no. Would be. handy. Thanks, Joe

If you have fab skills to hack up and modify the box like that it is probably one of the best ways of doing it. Cool air, high flow and water shielding all in one.

It's a Wix 46433.
