My ram is coming to an end.(long post)
Well, I was going down the road on my way to work. This guy who was waiting to turn left pulled out right in front of me at the last minute. I swerved to where I knew I had room trying to avoid a head on and driving over his mustang. As I was swerving around him he hit my back end at the bumper which caused my back end to swing out the other way. In my attempt to counter steer it I ended up into a heavy guardrail. Needless to say, the guard rail won. My truck now has a nasty grind from the t-case, and the cab is totally tweaked along with who knows what. Nobody was hurt except my truck and of course, his car!
Anyways, to the point of my story. The adjuster said it's a very good bet the truck will be a total loss due to the year and mileage. I am going to try to buy the truck back and a body shop guy told me they might just let me keep it because they won't consider it worth taking. ad removed

Before you give up on making the insurance company fix it, get together a list of selling prices for trucks similar to yours. With even rusty examples now going for over $4k they may change their mind on totalling it.
Some states will let you keep it and re-register it- Mom did that with her truck. Insurance agent siad it was a $3500 truck (2wd, decent paint, good shape otherwise). She got several car dealers in her area to say it'd go for $5000+, but to no avail- they gave her a $800 discount for salvage vaule, and she got to keep it.
Face it, it's just an old truck. Aint worth much at all. At least that's how they look at it.

KY lets you buy them back and then retitle as a slavage. I've done 3 that way
.
One was the '89 Toy my wife drives. Her grandmother rearended a lady, I paid the insurance co $400 for it with 40K, replaced the doghouse, a new radiator and repainted it. Then a lady backed into her at school, they totaled it again and paid ME $2,200, I pushed the hood back down and been driving it ever since
.
All we have to do is apply to the DOT for a slavage title and then have the Sheriff match the VIN. Easy, hope yours is too.
You said nobody got hurt, which is great, but did you at least clean out that 'Tang that screwed you up in the first place?

Sorry to hear that man, i have yet to hear back on the "value" of my truck. either way they r forking over enough to pay off my loan (currently 5300 payoff)
These things r just getting expencive to buy, tell your adjuster to go out n find u one in identical shape with the same options.

around here what we can do is make a fair deal and keep the truck without totaling it
i did that once with a 86 toy i spent a lot of money on it so i wanted it back they said it was worth only 2 grand gave them some pics of similar and rustier trucks got them up to 3500 and kept the truck without being a scrap title put 2 grand back in it and truck was still good for some mileage
just my 2 cents
