Sorry to see that your truck took a hit. But it woulda been way worse without that chunk of steel up front!
As to your lift question, that top block is added along with that over load spring that is on top of the spring pack. You can get new u bolts and get rid of that top block.
And if the front springs are orginal then they are probably sagging.

Yup it would have been way worse without the bumper (aluminum though not steel).

So the top block is added and the front is probably sagged, thanks. I will be removing the overload on top, i don't haul anything near heavy enough to warrant them.

Are you sure its not the bottom block added? The top has stops on it which are on the truck, you can see them in one of the pics.

Any thoughts on the second longest leaf on front, added or no? Looks added to me as it has square ends and the others are all tapered (can't really see it in the pics though).

Well now that you had me go back and look at the pictures, the top one has the "wing" that all the factory bocks I've seen have had. So it's possible, but I haven't seen one that is only 3" from the factory. All of mine have been 6" from the factory, but I've only owned 93's, so that could be the difference?
On the front springs, sound like he added a load leveling kit, if the spring is different in the pack.
What are you gonna do with the truck, You want it back to stock height? Or just wanting it to sit level? My suggestion would be to ditch the rear blocks, do a shackle flip in the rear, and get some new front springs, also take the rear spring packs apart and clean, clean, clean. I bet those things don't move much with the rust.

I want to replace the springs and am going for a much nicer ride, thinking alcans. I am just trying to determine if i need stock front or 2'' lift springs. I like the height of it but want it to be alittle more level, the rear is abit higher right now.

I do some towing but only about 6-7k max. I want to replace the fronts and then possibly the rears with as soft of springs as i can and put in air bags if needed.

I am still waiting on a price from our local rep for info purposes.
Got a price, $1300CAD

Well that bumper sure saved your front end....without it that Grand Am would have taken a good chunk of sheet metal with it.

Are you going to get a "New" bumper..since yours is now damaged from the accident.

Your front springs are stock. and the bottom block is added. 89-91 had 3" blocks. The overload spring on top is also stock. A set of 2" alcans will really help the ride.

As for the springs, JIM LANE ?I think it was? posted a very good write-up some time back about how he dis-assembled the spring-pack, cleaned the leaves, and installed some sort of high-density plastic between each leaf to improve leaf-slippage.

DNR Customs, ?I think it was?, posted an article on how he fabricated custom lowered spring hangers that completely eliminated the rear blocks.

Both Ford and Dodge frequently used blocks in the rear springs, but it is not a good way to accomplish increased ride height.

I would leave the over-load spring; it's removal will not help unloaded ride quality.

Yup, i just picked up the leaf spring inserts yesterday to do the same as jim lanes write up. Just have to wait for the truck to come back from the body shop now.

I will look for the lowered spring hangers, i am thinking of just doing a shackle flip.

shackle flip is a good way to go. I'll get around to doing it on mine one of these days.
