is my power low?

Just reading all this talk on how some trucks with mods are running and wondering if mine is doing ok.

The fuel screw has been moved but I don't know how much since the prev owner did it. I have the fuel pin set to almost the deepest setting.

The guages show a max of 21-22 psi with my foot on the floor at higher rpms.

Prev owner put in new stock injectors recently.

I had some trouble pulling in the mountains with EGTs, couldn't use over half the pedal most of the time on long grades, but power wise it did ok pulling around 5K lbs.

Truck has stock 18.5 housing on it, BHAF, and stock straightpiped exhaust.

Looks by the marks and by the sound of the engine the timing has been advanced. I find the diesel noise annoyingly loud at times, cant order at a drive through without turning the engine off Thing is very loud on a below freezing morning in the winter.

It seems doggy at low rpms and from a stop. Once it hits 1500rpm it wakes up quite a bit. I don't think I could spin a tire on pavement unless I reved it up some and dumped the clutch.

I wouldn't mine a bit more power especially at the low end of the RPM range and whatever I do has to be tow friendly since that is the trucks primary purpose.

For it not having power untill 1500rpms thats called turbo lag, its not going to have much power untill the turbo spools and starts making boost.

So if your going to stay with stock injectors than I would put a 12cm wastegated housing on and wire the wastegate shut. I make 27psi of boost and almost off idle it starts making boost.

Put a Governor Spring in!!!

Turn the fuel screw in more!!

With the 18.5 housing it probably will seem a little sluggish, since it takes a little longer for the boost to build. Even with the 16cm I have it will bog some if I give it too much pedal off the line. I just backed the pin back to the stock setting, and brought the starwheel up four turns from the bottom, and it really helped the low RPM bog and reduced the smoke a ton. I changed it so I could have the truck smogged, but I think it's gonna stay like this since it's much more driveable now.

As far as EGTs, even with milder pump settings I had problems pulling hills and couldn't use the power. Swapping in a 4" exhaust did wonders - it'll eventually hit 1200* now, but it takes a lot of throttle and a lot of time to get there.

Mine is really noisy, too - even the cars in front of me at the drive-thru can't hear, so I normally have to park a few carlengths back so they can order.

I switched to the 16, along with a Piers HX-35 Hybrid, and it did wake up the bottom end. Along with the 4inch straightpipe and ASA intake, I can keep it under 1100, even at WOT.

Ive got my fuel screw in 1.5 turns, the AFC at the deepest, a straight pipe, and the 18.5 also, and i get the good ol' "smokesmokesmokesmokesmoke..zoom!" effect too. Im looking into a 12cm housing and BHAF, which should help a lot.

I will look into the starwheel adjustment it sounds like. I get lots of smoke at below 1500 if I lug it with the trailer on and the EGTs will get high fast. Sometimes this makes it difficult to catch the next gear when towing up hill.
